Annual reports

The Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Communities Committee held an inquiry into child poverty in Scotland. The effects and causes of child poverty are well documented and the Committee's inquiry intended to identify actions that would lead to significant improvements in the lives and prospects of children living in poverty in Scotland.


The Committee Convener, Duncan McNeil MSP, and Alex Neil MSP have given their perspectives on the Local Government and Communities Committee inquiry into child poverty.  (Select video clip for 240408)

Written Evidence

A call for written evidence was issued by the Local Government and Communities committee for interested parties to submit evidence on child poverty in Scotland.  The call for evidence has now closed.

Oral Evidence

The Committee has taken oral evidence as part of its Child Poverty in Scotland inquiry.

Correspondence

The Committee received the following correspondence in relation to its Child Poverty in Scotland inquiry.

Commissioned Research

The Local Government and Communities Committee commissioned research from Hayton Consulting and Research Resource into Child Poverty in Scotland.  Hayton Consulting and Research Resource submitted a final report on its findings in March 2009.

Committee Report

The Committee published its report on Child Poverty in Scotland on 21 May 2009.

Scottish Government Response

The Local Government and Communities Committee received the Scottish Governments response to its Child Poverty in Scotland report on 27 July 2009.

Follow Up

The Committee held follow up evidence sessions with the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing at its meetings on 5 May 2010 and 2 February 2011.

Following on from the meeting on 2 February 2011, the Committee received follow up correspondence from the Cabinet Secretary.
