Petition by Martin Johnstone on behalf of the Poverty Truth Commission calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to attend a meeting with kinship carers, hosted by the Scottish Human Rights Commission and the Poverty Truth Commission, to work on providing adequate financial and other support for kinship carer children giving them an equal chance to foster care children and to urge the UK Government and COSLA to also attend and that the Scottish Government includes kinship carers in future detailed discussions which affect them to maximise the effectiveness of new policies and legislation.

26 October 2010 :   The Committee took evidence from Martin Johnstone, Jessie Harvey and Anne Marie Peffer, the Poverty Truth Commission and agreed to write to the Scottish Government and the Association of Directors of Social Work seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. 

22 February 2011 :   The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the grounds that, as requested in the petition, the Scottish Government has met with the petitioners to discuss the issues highlighted.Link to Official Report 22 February 2011"
