8 February 2011 :   The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the grounds that the Scottish Government have confirmed that the current law provides for family members to care for children who may be at risk and that new guidance on the Looked After Children Regulations has been issued to all local authorities. Further, HM Inspectorate of Education published a 'favourable' report in 2009 on the protection of children and the Scottish Government has stated that there is no room for complacency and that it remains active on this issue. Under the looked after children regulations kinship carers are recognised as a separate category and, in emergency situations, prominence is given to them when considering child placements. <Link to Official Report 8 February 2011
