Rural Affairs Committee

1. Subordinate Legislation (Negative Procedure): The Committee will consider the Organic Aid (Scotland) Amendment Regulations (SSI 1999/107) and an explanatory memorandum thereon by the Scottish Executive Rural Affairs Department.

2. Subordinate Legislation (Negative Procedure): The Committee will consider the Plant Health (Scotland) Amendment (SSI 1999/129), and an explanatory memorandum thereon by the Scottish Executive Rural Affairs Department.

3. Forestry: The Committee will consider two papers from the Forestry Commission providing a summary of responses to consultation on the draft forestry strategy and further information on logistical issues relating to timber transportation.

4. Agricultural Business Improvement Scheme: The Committee will consider submissions received on this issue.

5. EU Documents: The Committee will consider an EU Communication (10078/99) from the Commission regarding fisheries management and nature conservation in the marine environment.

6. Inquiry into the impact of changing employment patterns on rural communities: The Committee will consider a scoping paper from SPICe and initial evidence from the Executive on this inquiry.

7. Briefing on fisheries issues: The Committee will consider an invitation to attend a briefing session on fisheries matters presented by SERAD and the Sea Fish Industry Authority.

8. The Scottish Zone of British Fishery Limits: The Committee will consider a paper from the Convener outlining possible options for taking this issue forward.

3. National Arts Companies Inquiry: The Committee will take evidence on the national arts companies from the Scottish Arts Council and from Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet.

PE21 by Penicuik and District Community Council on the need for a concessionary bus fare scheme to be operated nationally by the Scottish Executive 

PE 22 by Island of Cumbrae Tourist Association on the fare structure of Caledonian MacBrayne for the ferry to Cumbrae Island and calling for more detailed financial information to be made available

4. Work Programme: The Committee will consider its Work Programme to December 1999.
