Meetings of Committees

All meetings take place in the Scottish Parliament, unless otherwise specified. Contact details for Committee Clerks are provided at the end of the Bulletin.

Justice Committee
17th Meeting, 2008

 

The Committee will meet at 10.00 am in Committee Room 2

1. Inquiry into community policing: The Committee will take evidence from—

Sir Ronnie Flanagan, Chief Inspector of Constabulary, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary;

and then from—

Chief Constable Stephen House, and Chief Superintendent Anne McGuire, Head of Community Policing Implementation, Strathclyde Police;

and then from—

Kenny MacAskill MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice;

Alastair Merrill, Deputy Director, Police Powers, Performance and Resources, Scottish Government.

2. Subordinate legislation: The Committee will consider the following negative instrument—

the Licensing (Transitional Provisions) (Scotland) Order 2008 (SSI 2008/194).

3. Inquiry into community policing (in private): The Committee will consider the main themes arising from the evidence sessions.

4. Work programme (in private): The Committee will consider its work programme.

European and External Relations Committee
13th Meeting, 2008

The Committee will meet at 11.00 am in Committee Room 1

1. Items in private: The Committee will consider whether to take items 6 and 7 in private.

2. EU Budget Review: The Committee will take evidence by video conference from—

Gary Titley, MEP, North West of England.

3. Inquiry into the transposition of EU directives: The Committee will consider a response from the Scottish Government to its report.

4. Transposition Report from the Scottish Government: The Committee will consider an update from the Scottish Government.

5. Brussels Bulletin: The Committee will consider the Brussels Bulletin.

6. Inquiry into the Services Directive: The Committee will consider a summary of evidence.

7. Work Programme: The Committee will consider a paper from the Clerk.

Finance Committee
18th Meeting, 2008

The Committee will meet at 2.00 pm in Committee Room 1

1. Review of the Budget Process: The Committee will take evidence from—

John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, and John Williams, Head of Finance Co-ordination, Scottish Government.

2. Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill: The Committee will consider its approach to the Financial Memorandum of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill.

3. Work programme (in private): The Committee will consider its work programme.

Public Petitions Committee
12th Meeting, 2008

The Committee will meet at 2.00 pm in the Burgh Hall, 17 Castle Street, Dumbarton

1. Consideration of new petitions: The Committee will give consideration to the following new petitions—

Alasdair Ferguson will make a brief statement to the Committee in support of his petition accompanied by Stewart Maclean.

Sam Coulter will make a brief statement to the Committee in support of his petition accompanied by Prince Obiki and Janet Carson from Erskine Community Council.

PE1159 Appropriate healthcare for war veterans

Sandra Kozak will make a brief statement to the Committee in support of her petition.

PE1167 Befriending services

Christine McNally will make a brief statement to the Committee in support of her petition accompanied by Thomas Dallas.

3. Notification of new petitions: The Committee will consider a paper indicating new petitions lodged since the last Committee meeting.

4. Public Petitions Process Inquiry: The Committee will consider its approach to the inquiry.

Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee
15th Meeting, 2008

The Committee will meet at 2.00 pm in Committee Room 4

1. Inquiry into rail services: The Committee will consider its approach to its inquiry into rail services.

2. Inquiry into ferry services in Scotland (in private): The Committee will consider a draft report on its inquiry into ferry services in Scotland.

3. Budget process 2009-2010 - appointment of adviser (in private): The Committee will consider a list of candidates for the post of budget adviser.

Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee
10th Meeting, 2008

 

The Committee will meet at 2.15 pm in Committee Room 5

1. Cross-Party Groups: The Committee will consider applications for recognition from two proposed Cross-Party Groups.

2. Audit Committee - title and remit (in private): The Committee will consider a draft report.

3. Complaint (in private): The Committee will continue its initial consideration of a report from the Scottish Parliamentary Standards Commissioner.

the Teachers’ Superannuation (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2008 (SSI 2008/227);

the Legal Profession and Legal Aid (Scotland) Act 2007 (Transitional, Savings and Consequential Provisions) Order 2008 (SSI 2008/draft); and

the Mental Health (Absconding patients from other jurisdictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2008 (SSI 2008/draft).

3. Instruments subject to annulment: The Committee will consider the following—

the Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland Revocation Regulations 2008 Revocation Regulations 2008 (SSI 2008/247);

the Public Transport Users’ Committee for Scotland Amendment Order 2008 Revocation Order 2008 (SSI 2008/248); and

the Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2008 (SSI 2008/246).

4. Provision of Transposition Notes: The Committee will consider a response to the European and External Relations Committee on its inquiry into the transposition of EU directives.
