Section F – Motions and Amendments

Motions and amendments are normally only printed the day after the day on which they are lodged and then with the complete list of motions and amendments lodged the previous week which is published in this section of the Bulletin every Monday. That list also contains any motions lodged for debate in the forthcoming week.

Where the text of a motion or amendment is altered, the motion or amendment is re-printed with the changes marked by asterisks in the text.

Where a motion or amendment attracts additional support after it is first published, that additional support is shown separately at the end of this section.

Motions eligible for consideration for debate as members’ business in the Parliament are marked with a hash symbol (#).

Motions submitted for members’ business in the Parliament but which have not yet received the requisite cross-party support are marked with a diamond symbol (♦).

Motions in which a member has indicated a declarable interest are marked with an "R".

An indication is also provided where motions and amendments have been withdrawn.

A full list of current motions is available to view each Monday in paper copy at the Chamber Desk or alternatively on the Scottish Parliament web site at Current Motions

(http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business/motionsAndAmendments/motions.htm). A search facility is also available on the Scottish Parliament web site at:http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business/motionsAndAmendments/index.htm

New and altered motions and amendments

*S3M-141 Michael Matheson: Healthy Meal Uptake in Falkirk Schools—That the Parliament congratulates Falkirk Council on its initiatives to encourage more pupils to take up school meals; notes that 97% of all eligible pupils attending schools have received free meals and that 62.9% of primary school pupils have taken school meals, the highest figures in mainland Scotland; recognises that the policies of the previous SNP-led administration have led to this improvement, and notes that there is a correlation between the price and uptake of school meals with Falkirk Council’s school meals being the cheapest in Scotland.

*S3M-140 Patricia Ferguson: Govan Old Parish Church—That the Parliament notes that the Church of Scotland has indicated that it has no further use for Govan Parish Church as a place of worship; recognises that this church is home to some of the most ancient Christian sculptures in Scotland and that the site itself has been a place of worship since the 6th century; further notes the central place that this building occupies in the life of the community of Govan, and calls on the Scottish Executive to work with the Church of Scotland, Glasgow City Council, Historic Scotland, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland and all stakeholders to ensure that an appropriate alternative use is found for this important site, should the Church of Scotland decide to implement its decision.

*S3M-139 Patricia Ferguson: Evening Times - Get Glasgow Moving Campaign—That the Parliament congratulates the Evening Times on its Get Glasgow Moving campaign; recognises that as part of that campaign it has launched an online poll to gauge public support for bus re-regulation, and encourages all Glaswegians to vote for re-regulation as the means of delivering regular, reliable bus services to all parts of Glasgow.

*S3M-138 Bill Wilson: The UK, BAE, Saudi Arabia, Civil Liberties and Terrorism—That the Parliament notes with concern the BBC’s allegation that BAE Systems paid hundreds of millions of pounds to the ex-Saudi ambassador to the United States of America, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, as part of a £40 billion arms deal between Britain and Saudi Arabia; notes the links between Saudi Arabia and the perpetrators of the 9/11 atrocities and that country’s poor record on civil liberties; notes with alarm the UK Government’s proposal to extend the period of detention without trial of terrorist suspects, and expresses the fear that the UK Government’s actions and example may serve to further the aims of those seeking to destroy civil liberties and promote terrorism and conflict rather than further peace and justice.
