Section F – Motions and Amendments

Motions and amendments are normally only printed the day after the day on which they are lodged and then with the complete list of motions and amendments lodged the previous week which is published in this section of the Bulletin every Monday. That list also contains any motions lodged for debate in the forthcoming week.

Where the text of a motion or amendment is altered, the motion or amendment is re-printed with the changes marked by asterisks in the text.

Where a motion or amendment attracts additional support after it is first published, that additional support is shown separately at the end of this section.

Motions eligible for consideration for debate as members’ business in the Parliament are marked with a hash symbol (#).

Motions submitted for members’ business in the Parliament but which have not yet received the requisite cross-party support are marked with a diamond symbol (♦).

Motions in which a member has indicated a declarable interest are marked with an "R".

An indication is also provided where motions and amendments have been withdrawn.

A full list of current motions is available to view each Monday in paper copy at the Chamber Desk or alternatively on the Scottish Parliament web site at Current Motions

(http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business/motionsAndAmendments/motions.htm). A search facility is also available on the Scottish Parliament web site at: http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business/motionsAndAmendments/index.htm

New and altered motions and amendments

*S2M-5599 Mike Pringle: Success for the University of Edinburgh—That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre at the University of Edinburgh for its success in having been selected to house, manage and direct the latest £113 million national high performance computing facility for UK computational science, HECToR (High End Computing Terascale Resource), which will provide UK researchers with a world-class capability to undertake increasingly complex studies across a range of scientific disciplines.

*S2M-5598 Mr David Davidson: Road Tolling—That the Parliament opposes the introduction of any additional nationwide charges for using Scotland’s existing roads and calls for the repeal of Part 3 of the Transport (Scotland) Act 2001.

*S2M-5597 Richard Lochhead: Diageo’s Proposal for New Malt Whisky Distillery in Moray—That the Parliament warmly welcomes Diageo’s announcement that it is investing £100 million to expand its Scotch whisky operations in Scotland; is delighted to note that these plans include a proposal to build a new malt whisky distillery in Roseisle in Moray; recognises that this announcement signals the enormous success of the iconic Scotch whisky industry which is benefiting from expanding overseas markets; appreciates that the prospect of new distilleries opening locally illustrates the growing confidence in Moray’s international reputation as the home of malt whisky distilling, and calls for continuing cross-party support for an industry that makes a huge contribution to the Scottish economy.

Supported by: Bruce Crawford*, Rob Gibson*, Mr Stewart Maxwell*

S2M-5582 Margo MacDonald: Location of Creative Scotland—That the Parliament, while supporting the general principle of dispersal of Scottish Executive departments and agencies throughout Scotland, nevertheless believes that Creative Scotland must remain in Scotland’s capital city, which plays host to the world’s biggest international festival of the arts; notes that *meetings and conferences concerning the arts are held every week of the year and that moving Creative Scotland out of Edinburgh may jeopardise this and the contribution made to Scotland’s income from tourism and culture* during the period of the Edinburgh Festival, and urges the Executive to support the City of Edinburgh Council in its plans to locate Creative Scotland in a new and completely sympathetic environment in one of the developments that will further advance the attractiveness of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland.
