Motions which members wish to be considered for debate as members’ business in the Parliament are marked with a hash symbol (#).

*S1M-417 Tommy Sheridan: General Pinochet—That the Parliament notes with deep concern that the Home Secretary, Jack Straw, "is minded" not to proceed with the extradition of General Pinochet on the grounds that he would be unfit to stand trial now or at any time in the future; believes that this flies in the face of the human rights of the victims of torture under General Pinochet’s military regime and their relatives who need justice to be done, and calls upon the Home Secretary to agree to extradite General Pinochet to Spain.

Supported by: Dennis Canavan*, Alex Neil*

*S1M-416# Michael Matheson: Football Supporters-Shareholders Trust—That the Parliament acknowledges that football fans have an important role to play in the running of their respective clubs, and considers that a supporters-shareholders trust should be established in order to assist in securing a supporters’ representative on football club boards.

Supported by: Mr Lloyd Quinan*, Mr Kenny MacAskill*, Mr Gil Paterson*, Mr Adam Ingram*, Linda Fabiani*

*S1M-415 Mr Alex Salmond: New Entrants to the Scottish League—That the Parliament congratulates Peterhead and Elgin City Football Clubs on their success in joining the Scottish Football League; believes that both teams will be a major addition to the league, and wishes them every success for the future.

Supported by: Mrs Margaret Ewing*, Brian Adam*

*S1M-414# Michael Russell: Irvine Elderly Forum—That the Parliament congratulates Irvine Elderly Forum on its work to highlight the many difficulties faced by Scotland’s pensioners and supports its campaign for a decent pensioner income following the insulting 75 pence a week increase in the state pension announced recently by Her Majesty’s Government.

Supported by: Kay Ullrich*

*S1M-413# Mr Jamie McGrigor: Scottish Scallop Industry—That the Parliament notes the progress achieved by the Irish Government in alleviating the problems for its scallop industry associated with amnesic shellfish poisoning, and calls upon the Scottish Executive to take similar measures to remove Scotland’s scallop industry from its present crisis by lifting the current closures under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 and focusing the management regime on end product testing without delay.

Supported by: Bill Aitken*, Alex Johnstone*, Mrs Lyndsay McIntosh*, Mr Brian Monteith*, Mary Scanlon*, Mr Murray Tosh*, Lord James Douglas-Hamilton*, Mr John Munro*

*S1M-412 Richard Lochhead: Nigel Tranter—That the Parliament records the gratitude of the people of Scotland to the late Nigel Tranter, one of Scotland’s greatest storytellers, for his contribution to the campaign for a Scottish Parliament, rediscovery and restoration of the fortified houses of Scotland and his role in making Scotland’s history accessible to her people.

Supported by: Dorothy-Grace Elder*, Alasdair Morgan*, Mr Andrew Welsh*, Irene McGugan*, Mr John Swinney*, Mr Duncan Hamilton*, Michael Matheson*, Nicola Sturgeon*, Andrew Wilson*, Linda Fabiani*, Brian Adam*, Mr Kenny MacAskill*, Kay Ullrich*, Michael Russell*, Fiona Hyslop*

*S1M-411# Mr Kenny MacAskill: Harewood Park and Meggetland Development—That the Parliament acknowledges the importance of National Planning Policy Guideline 11 for the continued maintenance and preservation of playing fields and sports pitches; notes with concern the development proposals for Harewood Park and Meggetland in the City of Edinburgh and reiterates to local authorities and other bodies the necessity of wherever possible preserving and enhancing green space in urban Scotland.

Supported by: Michael Russell*, Dorothy-Grace Elder*, Alex Neil*, Shona Robison*, Linda Fabiani*, Irene McGugan*, Michael Matheson*, Mrs Margaret Smith*, Donald Gorrie*, Robin Harper*, David McLetchie*, Ms Margo MacDonald*, Fiona Hyslop*

*S1M-408.1 Bill Aitken: Housing—As an amendment to motion (S1M-408) in the name of Ms Wendy Alexander, leave out from "welcomes" to end and insert "notes the Executive’s proposals to achieve this and notes that the Executive will bring forward a Housing Bill; calls upon the Executive to include within this Bill measures to deal with the alarming problem of homelessness which has increased dramatically since May 1997; welcomes the Executive’s commitment to extend the Right to Buy to Housing Association tenants, but emphasises that measures may be necessary to safeguard individual Associations where the take-up of this right could prejudice the operation, viability or success of these Associations."

*S1M-408.2 Fiona Hyslop: Housing—As an amendment to motion (S1M-408) in the name of Ms Wendy Alexander, leave out from "welcomes" to end and insert "notes the Executive’s proposals to achieve this through a range of measures, including the introduction of a single social tenancy, the development of a single regulatory framework for social housing, the promotion of a stronger strategic role in housing for local authorities, and a new role and status for Scottish Homes, but believes that these measures alone will not improve the position of Scotland’s 80000 homeless people and that the Executive must give greater priority to dealing with chronic under investment in Scotland’s public and voluntary housing including the reversal of their policy of wholesale stock transfer."

Supported by: Ms Sandra White*, Alex Neil*, Mr Lloyd Quinan*, Brian Adam*, Mr Kenneth Gibson*

*S1M-408.3 Tommy Sheridan: Housing—As an amendment to motion (S1M-408) in the name of Ms Wendy Alexander, leave out from "welcomes" to end and insert "notes that this will only be delivered by a radical and sustained increase in public housing investment throughout Scotland; agrees to change immediately the capital receipt set-aside rules and release significant resources for vital investment in local authority housing throughout Scotland, and further calls for a comprehensive Housing Bill to be presented which will reject the damaging right-to-buy legislation and contain provision for a strong single social tenancy and appropriate incentives to retain tenants in the rented sector."
